World Cup 2010 Game

As June of 2010 approaches, the nation of South Africa will garner more and more attention from football (or soccer) enthusiasts from around the globe. This is because it is hosting the FIFA World Cup 2010. Not only is this a wildly popular event due to the billions of sports’ fans, but also because it is the first time that the tournament will be hosted by an African nation.

Because it is serving as the host nation, the Bafana Bafana team of South Africa are automatically entered into the competition. The 31 remaining teams include Australia, Japan, Korea DPR and Republic, Algeria, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Honduras, Mexico, United States, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, New Zealand, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.

Tickets for this game have been released by FIFA (via their website) in a series of “phases”, although the delivery of all tickets will not occur until some point in early 2010. The actual dates for the month-long affair are June 11 through July 11, and the actual schedule of matches has already been released as well.

The games will take place in ten different stadiums spread throughout the entire country, and will include Soccer world cup City in Johannesburg, Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, Cape Town Stadium, Coca-Cola Park in Johannesburg, Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, Free State Stadium in Mangaung, Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, and Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

The significance of the tournament (one that is expected to be viewed by more than one billion people) has inspired the country to dedicate 8.4bn Rand to improving the public transportation infrastructure of the region, adding five additional venues, and beefing up security and safety for the many international visitors who will head to the country to enjoy many of the games

You can tune in to the world cup online and watch the world cup live using a streaming software.
